Two dead in I-70 crash in Plainfield
PLAINFIELD — A two-vehicle crash claimed two lives Tuesday afternoon in Hendricks County.
Just after 2:15 p.m., emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the exit for State Road 267 for a serious crash.
Upon arrival, first responders found a heavily damaged full-size van with two occupants had crashed into the rear end of a semi-tractor trailer.
Both occupants of the van were pronounced deceased at the scene The driver of the semi was not injured.
Preliminary investigation has led officers to believe eastbound traffic on I-70 was backed up due to road repairs in the area. The semi-tractor trailer was stopped at the back of the line of traffic when the van failed to stop before colliding with the back of the trailer.
All lanes of I-70 eastbound were closed at State Road 267 for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
There was no further information available as of Tuesday evening.
The Indiana State Police was assisted in the investigation by the Plainfield Police Department, the Plainfield Fire Department and the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office.
