Deceased motorcyclist collided with a culvert

The Brazil man killed in a motorcycle crash early Sunday morning in Marion Township had already passed when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies were called County Road 500 East just south of County Road 300 South shortly after midnight.

Evidence leads deputies to believe the driver, 29-year-old Benjamin Courtney, was traveling northbound when his motorcycle left the west side of the roadway.

The motorcycle collided with a driveway culvert, ejecting Courtney from the vehicle.

Upon their arrival, Putnam County Operation Life medics confirmed that Courtney was deceased.

The incident was investigated by Sgt. Riley Houghton of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Indiana State Police for accident reconstruction and Putnam County Coroner Dave Brown.
