Roachdale Library to host Meet the Candidates Tuesday

ROACHDALE – Citizens in the Town of Roachdale will get a chance to meet the candidates for clerk-treasurer and town council on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Roachdale VFW Post 3284 (206 N. Meridian St.).

Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The event is hosted by the Roachdale Friends of the Library and moderated by Roachdale Public Library Director Jennifer Stranger. As a moderated event, community questions are welcome and encouraged, but must be submitted between 6-6:30 p.m. that evening or via e-mail roachdalepl@tds.net before 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The floor will not be open to questions once the event begins at 6:30.

All candidates are running as independents. The candidates for cerk-treasurer include incumbent Debbie Sillery and challenger Michael Arnold. The three positions for town council are at-large with voters choosing three candidates when voting.

Candidates for town council include incumbents Zach Bowers, Holly Cook and Kevin Cook. Challengers include Katrina Asher, Michael Mahoy and Rick Miles Sr.

Meet the Candidate night on Tuesday will allow the public time to meet and greet the candidates one-on-one, as well as a moderated question session. The Roachdale Public Library will also provide a flyer with all candidates’ biographies, giving citizens a chance to get to know their background and community involvement.

Voters are reminded that Putnam County is now a Vote Center County. Voters may place their ballots at any of the six vote center locations: Putnam County Courthouse, Cloverdale American Legion, Bainbridge Community Building, Floyd Township Fire Dept. (Heritage Lake), Putnam County Fairgrounds or Greencastle American Legion. Absentee voting is now available and continues until noon, Monday, Nov. 4.

Any Putnam County registered voter qualified to vote in this municipal election may vote, in advance, on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The courthouse will also be open for absentee (early) voting 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 2. A voter must provide a government-issued photo ID before casting a ballot in-person at the courthouse or at the polls on Election Day.

If a voter needs to have a ballot mailed to them or needs to request that the travel team come to their home and assist them with voting they should call the Voter Registration Office at 655-1538.
