Greetings, Putnam County. As your local Ivy Tech representative, I want to wish every student and their family a warm holiday season filled with rest and relaxation.

As year 2019 wraps up, our high school seniors may realize that the “Class of 2020” graduation phrase is becoming a reality.

As we spend time reflecting during our breaks, it is beneficial to consider our plans after high school or what our children and grandchildren are striving for. At Ivy Tech Greencastle, the Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) may just be the choice for you or yours.

Jake Widner

ASAP is a program designed to help students earn their associate’s degree in just 11 months and prepares them to transfer to a four-year college to earn their bachelor’s degree, or be better equipped to enter the workforce. It began in Greencastle in 2016 and has seen more than 40 students succeed in earning their degrees in that timeframe.

Coursework is spread over five eight-week terms and classes are held in small, closely-knit groups known as “cohorts.”

Students also have a dedicated ASAP mentor to help map a clear pathway to success.

I am excited to build the fifth cohort and already have eight students who have claimed their spot — at least one from every county school.

If you know exactly what four-year school you’d like to go to, ASAP can help you transfer as a late sophomore or junior in many different program areas including business, psychology, criminal justice or education.

If you are undecided about your college plans, ASAP is a great place to get started. Our general studies curriculum helps students pinpoint areas that they are most interested in and helps them get placed in a four-year major program.

For those looking to earn a bachelor’s degree, a few of Ivy Tech’s several four-year partners include ISU, IU-Bloomington, IUPUI, Ball Sate and Purdue. In fact, every student that has successfully completed ASAP at Ivy Tech Greencastle has been accepted to their transfer school of choice.

See how ASAP can help you.

I look forward to interacting with you and helping you with your future plans. Please enjoy your holidays.
