Census recruitment effort set for Jan. 7, 9 at courthouse

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting to fill hundreds of thousands of temporary positions across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count, including Putnam County.

And to fill those Putnam positions, the Census Bureau will be conducting a recruitment fair at the Putnam County Courthouse on Tuesday, Jan. 7 and Thursday, Jan. 9 from, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Job recruiting for the 2020 Census training will begin is March, with field work commencing in mid-March.

There will be some phone work involved but much of the work will consist of walking and going door to door in neighborhoods to determine e the most exact Census count, Census spokesman Steve Forsgre told the Banner Graphic.

To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, you must:

-- Be a U.S. citizen.

-- Be at least 18 years old.

-- Have a valid Social Security number.

-- Have a valid email address.

-- Complete an application and answer assessment questions.

-- Be able to speak, read, and write in English, if applying in the 50 states or Washington, D.C. (bilingual applicants are needed and are encouraged to apply).

-- Be registered with the Selective Service System or have a qualifying exemption, if you are a male born after Dec. 31, 1959.

-- Undergo fingerprinting and pass a criminal background check and a review of criminal records performed by the Census Bureau.

-- Commit to completing training.

-- Be available to work flexible hours, which can include days, evenings and weekends.

Most jobs require employees to:

-- Have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle, unless public transportation is readily available.

-- Have access to a computer with internet and an email account (to complete training).
