SAWs begins 12th year of service

Monday, February 24, 2020

SAWs, the Mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church that provides handicap ramps and steps to the residents of Putnam County, is beginning its 12th year of service to the Community in 2020.

SAWs is the only organization in Putnam County that offers help to handicapped residents needing improved access to their homes, usually at no cost. Without the help of SAWs, many handicapped residents could not get in or out of their homes to go to doctor appointments, the grocery store or other commitments without the help of friends or emergency services.

These people would actually be trapped in their homes.

Since the beginning of the SAWs Mission in 2009, 196 residents of Putnam County have found freedom from the entrapment of their homes.

Anyone trapped in their home or having difficulty accessing their home is able to utilize the help of SAWs.

Each year SAWs provides help to 20 to 25 residents with ramps and safety steps as needed.

However, the organization usually receives more requests than it can complete, resulting in potential clients being on the waiting list for the next year.

Anyone who needs help or knows someone who might need help is encouraged to contact Greencastle Presbyterian Church at 653-5713 or churchoffice@cinergymetro.net.
