Storm debris accepted this Saturday at West Central site

Monday, April 13, 2020

Due to the high winds associated with last week’s storm, many homeowners were left with downed tree limbs and branches.

Although the Greencastle/Putnam County yard waste site opening has been postponed until May 2, the West Central Solid Waste District will offer a limited opening from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 for Putnam County residents to drop off debris directly related to last week’s storm.

Public distancing should be observed during this special collection. Branches over six inches in diameter, trees and stumps are not accepted at this location at any time.

Bagged material such as grass clippings, leaves and brush will not be accepted this Saturday. Residents should hold those materials until the yard waste site opens for regular drop-off in May.

Businesses and contractors are prohibited due to limited space.

Other local options for yard waste disposal include Republic Services, Greencastle, 653-1571 or Greencycle, Danville (317)745-2000.

  • Does anyone know what the status of accepting recycling is currently at the Columbia Street trash disposal center? They had stopped accepting recycling several weeks ago. Have they started accepting recycling again? If not, do they expect to in the future? What other options are there for taking one’s recycling in the area?

    Thanks.
