Greencastle Presbyterian blessings box now open
At a time when so many ministries, organizations and businesses are pulling together to help each other out, Greencastle Presbyterian Church now has a “blessings box” outside of its front door where you “give what you can” and “take what you need.”
John Anderson, who heads up the SAWs ministry, was looking for a way to still help our community. He happily put his carpentry skills to use — making a simple stand for the plastic bin.
Donations can be made during the day and any medical supplies will be donated to Putnam County Hospital.
Additionally, the hope is for this “blessings box” to support two main areas at this time: Infection control and home-learning supplies.
Feel free to drop off gloves, masks and hand-sanitizer as well as coloring books, crayons, chalk art or anything else that will brighten a child’s day or help with home-learning.
“We know,” Pastor Wes Kendall said, “there are a lot of families and children and teachers who could use that little extra boost in their day. Maybe that new puzzle or coloring book is the thing that brings a smile to a kid’s face and lets mom and dad get through the day. I know how hard this time can be especially for parents of young children. And I’m really mindful of what our teachers here in this community are still doing to connect with their kids, including our own daycare staff reaching out to families. My hope is just that parents have one more resource for them in this time and to let them know other people care for them.”
A bottle of hand-sanitizer will be placed next to the “blessings box” for donors and recipients to use.
“Please, if this box has something that can bless you and your family, take it,” Kendall said. “We’re just grateful for all the ways others are trying to bless one another in this time. This is how it should be.”
Greencastle Presbyterian Church is located at 653 S. CR 100 East, just north of the Putnam County Playhouse.
