County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 9:51 p.m. April N. Sult, 34, Fillmore, was booked in for theft.

• At 9:44 p.m. Gary T. Leitzman, 44, Fillmore, was lodged at the jail for theft.

• At 9:14 a.m. Alec N. Clark, 43, Indianapolis, was taken into custody on a warrant.

Tuesday

• At 8:40 p.m. Roy A. Mitchell, 30, Quincy, was booked in for driving while intoxicated-refusal.

• At 5:21 a.m. Michael J. Bevis, 53, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated endangering a person and driving while intoxicated.

Monday

• At 6:06 p.m. Darrell L. Goff, 41, Coatesville, was taken into custody for two counts of resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and driving a vehicle after the forfeiture of license for life.

• At 12:36 p.m. Robert C. Summers, 25, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for battery with bodily injury and on a local warrant.

• At 12:41 a.m. Erick D. Williams, 49, Clinton, was lodged at the jail for possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, burglary and driving with a suspended license.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, Adam McCastle, 46, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman.

Taken in to custody at Greenwood Apartments on a charge of invasion of privacy, McCastle was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies recently investigated six property-damage crashes.

• At 10 p.m. on Monday, Carissa N. Jones, 18, Coatesville, was eastbound on County Road 600 North between County Road 725 East and Heritage Drive in a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro.

Jones told Deputy Robert Soilleux she swerved to miss a deer, which resulted in her leaving the road and sideswiping a pole. There was passenger-side damage to the car, but Jones continued to drive home.

Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6:15 p.m. on Monday, George L. Brzeczek, 69, Yuma, Ariz., was pulling a 2015 Highland fifth-wheel camper into the Cloverdale RV Park in the 2700 block of County Road 800 South.

While trying to turn a sharp corner in the driveway area, Brzeczek cut the fifth-wheel into a concrete retaining barrier. This damaged the left side of the camper as well as the dual axles.

Curtis Wrecker towed the camper.

Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:56 a.m. on Monday, two different vehicles struck deer at the same time on U.S. 40.

Dustin Miller, 29, Jamestown, was westbound in the right lane in a 2013 Chevrolet Volt when he hit a deer.

Deputy Tanner Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

The car was towed.

Tonya Earl, 46, Danville, was also westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2020 Hyundai Elantra when she hit a deer.

Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

Earl was able to drive from the scene.

• At 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jamie L. Croy, 30, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 325 South in a 2010 Nissan Rogue when she hit an animal.

Croy told Deputy Daniel Birt that she was distracted by a child in the rear seat and did not see what type of animal she had hit.

Loose car parts were removed from the passenger-side fender area and front bumper, allowing the vehicle to be driven from the scene.

Birt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, Harvey L. Collier, 55, Rockville, was southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 850 North in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

Deputy Patrick estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

• At 11:06 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to an alarm for a barn fire located at 512 W. U.S. 40. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:15 to assist the Cloverdale Volunteer Fire Department, but were advised by the owner that he was burning the barn himself. GFD went back into service at 11:29 p.m.

• At 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 950 N. Jackson St. for a reported liquid spill. Units arrived at 9:55 and determined the liquid in a drain was Rim Guard, which is biodegradable and non-toxic. GFD went back into service at 10:16 a.m.

• At 10:16 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 107 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:19 and determined the alarm was caused by a dirty detector head. The detector head was cleaned, and the alarm was reset. GFD left at 10:29 a.m.

• At 12:17 a.m. on Thursday, GFD received a call from Putnam County Dispatch for an odor investigation. Firefighters arrived at 12:20 and were advised that computer systems were down and that there was a smoky smell. Personnel did not find a source after checking for hot spots. The cause was later found to be computer-related. GFD went back into service at 12:42 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed five medical assists and had one disregard during this time.
