Cloverdale native set to graduate from West Point
Jackson Szczerbik of Cloverdale is set to graduate from the West Point Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
Szczerbik will graduate with degrees in Nuclear Physics and Military History. The graduation ceremony, which was postponed due to the pandemic, is scheduled for June 13 at West Point, during which the President of the United States will be delivering the commencement address.
Szczerbik was commissioned as a second lieutenant for the United States Army via a virtual officer commissioning ceremony over the Memorial Day weekend, surrounded by his family.
2nd Lt. Szczerbik, son of Brad and Kristin Szczerbik, graduated from Cloverdale High School in 2016 with various scholastic and athletic honors, and was nominated by Congressman Todd Rokita for appointment to the West Point Military Academy. He has served in the Corps of Cadets for the past four years.
The prestigious U.S. Military Academy at West Point has prominent history dating back to General George Washington. The Academy states that its mission is that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of duty, honor, country and is prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the United States Army.
