Don Simpson

Don Simpson, 70, of Roachdale, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at his daughter’s residence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1949 in Crawfordsville to the late James O. and Helen (Howard) Simpson.

Don graduated from Roachdale High School in 1967.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was also a standout athlete in high school, as he excelled in baseball, basketball and track.

Don was a high school referee for more than 30 years, working extensively in basketball and track around the area. He was also a softball umpire for many years, as he was a regular in Crawfordsville for many years.

Don later worked at North Putnam Jr.-Sr. High School and he retired from there in 2013. While at North Putnam, he coached basketball for many years.

He married Betty Lou Myers in 1994. She preceded him in death in 2017.

He is survived by his daughter, Hayley (Alex) Yeley of Crawfordsville, his twin brother Ron of Roachdale and half-sister Marilyn of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brother James.

Funeral service will be at noon on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, 102 E. Washington St., Roachdale, with Mike Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Roachdale Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Masks are encouraged, and social distancing will be followed.
