Living the 4-H pledge, the Putnam County Junior Leaders are still finding ways while meeting virtually during this pandemic to “pledge our hands to larger service” and “our health to better living” for others.

For many assisted living facilities in Putnam County, it has been challenging to keep their residents safe and find ways to help brighten their days. Junior Leaders discussed what could be done for our local assisted living facilities during one of their meetings.

Junior Leaders decided to donate $300 to be used at local assisted living facilities for bird feeders, birdseed and feeder hooks. Per request of one facility, the Junior Leaders also made 45 signs stating “A Healthcare Hero Lives Here” for employees to take home.

Junior Leaders have also been active in helping the Extension Office develop a virtual gourth-grade Ag Field Day opportunity, which is an annual event that was canceled due to COVID-19.

Other opportunities that individuals have been active in are the virtual options of 4-H Round-Up, 4-H Academy and the 4-H Junior Leader Conference.

By taking part in these opportunities, the Junior Leaders have learned about building their resumes, career options, college and had the chance to listen to motivational speakers.

The Junior Leader project/club is open for any seventh-12th grade 4-H’er who would like to get involved in his or her community and local fair.
