Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:47 p.m. on Sunday, Diane L. Williams, 54, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 just north of U.S. 40 in a 2009 Chevrolet HHR.

Williams told Deputy Robert Soilleux she had a coughing fit, which caused her to lose control of her vehicle. The passenger side tires dropped off the east side of the road and she could not get it back on the road.

Williams was cited for driving without financial responsibility.

Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, Chad S. Chew, 22, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 700 South in a 2006 Ford Ranger pulling a trailer with mowing equipment.

Chew told Deputy Daniel Birt the mower was not sitting in the proper location on the trailer and the occupants of the truck were discussing whether to stop and adjust the trailer or continue to the next location.

As the truck crested a slight hill at the T-intersection with County Road 475 East, the trailer load shifted and caused the trailer to whip the pickup off the road. This caused it to roll approximately three times. The trailer came to rest upside down and the mower was tossed into the woodline.

Both Chew and his passenger declined medical attention. The passenger complained of no pain, while Chew said he was started to experience back pain. The deputy strongly advised him to see medical evaluation at the hospital.

The truck, trailer and mower were towed from the scene.

Birt estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 11:23 a.m. on Monday, Cody A. Voorhees, 41, Indianapolis, was southbound on U.S. 231 attempting to turn west onto U.S. 40 in a 2015 International roll-off wrecker registered to JRS Services and Recovery. Candy R. Linson, 53, Indianapolis, was also southbound, preparing to turn west, in a 2001 Toyota Solara.

Voorhees told Deputy Kyle Lee he swung wide, taking up part of the space in the southbound lane due to the length of his vehicle. However, as he was turning, Linson pulled all the way up in the turn lane and he struck the driver’s side front of her vehicle.

Linson’s account was consistent with Voorhees’.

Lee estimated damage at less than $1,000.
