An SUV reported stolen from the city’s East Side Friday morning was soon located, overturned in a grassy field.

Sgt. Ed Wilson of the Greencastle Police Department was dispatched to an Avenue B address at 7:49 a.m., where the owner reported a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe had been taken within the previous 30-45 minutes.

While Wilson was still taking the report, a call came in at 8:09 a.m. of a vehicle rollover with unknown injuries near Ottawa Park mobile home park, less than two miles away on the South Side.

Wilson arrived to find it was the same vehicle. The operator had apparently driven through the southern addition of Ottawa Park and into a grassy field, where the vehicle rolled over.

“It looks like they were joyriding, if I had my guess,” Wilson said.

The occupants had fled the scene, but a witness provided descriptions.

Police are not releasing descriptions of the suspects, as the investigation is ongoing. However, anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Putnam County Dispatch at 653-5115.
