Many would agree that COVID-19 has created a trying time for the education of students: To mask or not to mask; to go virtual or send children to school; how to help with homework or poorly understood lessons.

Students, teachers and parents have had their struggles adjusting. However, Greencastle School Corporation Superintendent Jeff Gibboney would attest that administrators have also had their difficulties.

Gibboney will speak tonight about these issues and more during the final Community Conversation for 2020 at 7 p.m. in a virtual discussion.

This meeting will be held over Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88220608551

Gibboney, born and raised in South Bend, is a graduate of John Adams High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Indiana University. He also holds a Master of Arts in educational administration and supervision from Ball State and an Educational Specialist degree in school administration from Indiana State University.

Currently, Gibboney is a doctorate candidate at Indiana State University and is working toward completing his research.

Gibboney’s background includes experience both inside and outside the classroom as a teacher, coach, athletic director, principal, superintendent and as an outreach coordinator for the Indiana Department of Education.

Gibboney is in his sixth year as a superintendent and assumed his role with GCSC in July. He looks forward to collaborating with the community to develop a vision for the future of the Greencastle School Corporation.

Following the presentation, the meeting will allow for interaction so the audience can ask questions.

The Community Conversation Series is sponsored by the Greencastle League of Women Voters, the Putnam County Public Library and the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.

The goal of this continuing program is to provide the community with an opportunity to hear from and speak to their elected and appointed government officials.
