A head-on crash Wednesday evening on the city's North Side sent a man and a teen boy to the hospital.

At 7:51 p.m., a 43-year-old man from Covington was northbound on Jackson Street (U.S. 231) just south of the railroad viaduct in a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu.

The man told investigating officers from the Greencastle Police Department that he fell asleep.

The Malibu crossed the centerline and struck a 2008 Dodge Ram that was southbound, driven by a 17-year-old male from Greencastle.

The Greencastle Fire Department advised the Banner Graphic that one of the vehicles was pinned against a guardrail and the driver required extrication.

Both drivers were transported from the scene for treatment. The severity of their injuries was unknown.

Joining GPD and GFD at the scene were Putnam County EMS, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Seniour’s Wrecker Service.
