Bev Torr passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 29, 2020, after suffering 15 years with dementia, the loss of near 85 percent of her kidneys about six years ago and culminating with a recent stroke.

Born Beverly Ione Huller on Dec. 2, 1935 in the family home near Fillmore, she was the daughter of Robert Carl Huller and Anna Louise Hutcheson Huller.

She attended early school at both Clinton Falls and Fillmore but mainly Reelsville, graduating from Reelsville High School in 1953. She worked at JC Penney Co. in Greencastle, Loeb’s Department Store in Lafayette, attended one year at Purdue University before beginning her 30-year career with IBM in Greencastle, culminating with retirement as manager of the Purchasing Department, Office Products Division.

When IBM closed its doors in Greencastle, she was one of the last five or six IBM’ers “out the door,” as she helped many of the Greencastle IBM displaced employees relocate to other IBM positions throughout the USA following the local plant closure. After retirement she still worked in the IBM office at the FAA building at the Indianapolis airport and later at Anne’s Fashion Store in Greencastle.

Growing up she was very active member of the Big Walnut Baptist Church.

She married Kenneth Torr on June 10, 1956 in Greencastle and he survives her.

During her career with IBM she also held a real estate sales license, was a member of Delta Theta Tau, Windy Hill Country Club, IBM bowling league and a deaconess in the First Christian Church of Greencastle. She loved golf, her cats, flowers and of course her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather Roy Johnson and a step-brother William Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Torr; sons John (Patty) Torr of Indianapolis, and Jerry Torr of Carmel; a daughter, Janet Jayne of Greencastle; stepsisters Angie Johnson of Malakof, Texas, and Lelia (Halford) Mercer of Brazil; a stepbrother, Kenneth Johnson of Brazil; sister-in-law Carolyn (Dr. Russ) Torr Elliott of Greencastle; step sister-in-law Gerry Johnson of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren Andrew (Brittany) Torr of Fishers, Theresa (Ryan) Hearn of Chicago, Adam Jayne of Greencastle and Riley (Kayla Sage) Jayne of Greencastle; stepgrandchildren Matt (Christina) Stark of Boulder City, Nev., and Stephanie (Eric) Engler; three great-grandchildren, Leo and Remi Hearn and Carson Jayne; and six step-great-grandchildren, Hank and Hanna Stark, Jacob, Carter, Evan and Becca Engler.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery with interment to follow. Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest that donations be made in honor of Bev to the newly established Bev Torr 4-H Scholarship Fund, c/o the Indiana 4-H Foundation, 615 W. State St., West Lafayette, IN 47907, to be awarded to a 10-year 4-H member in Putnam County, excelling in the sewing and dress review projects, or if preferred to the charity of the donor’s choice.
