Special Enrollment Period open for Health Insurance Marketplace

Monday, February 15, 2021

On Monday, in accordance with the executive order signed by President Joe Biden, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for the Health Insurance Marketplace will officially be available to consumers in the 36 states, including Indiana, that use the HealthCare.gov platform through Saturday, May 15.

The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency has affected millions of people throughout the country, and many Americans remain uninsured or underinsured and need access to affordable health coverage. The SEP will allow individuals and families to enroll in the health coverage they need.

Consumers who are uninsured can take this opportunity to look for coverage and find out if they qualify for financial assistance to help pay for health insurance.

To find help locally, contact a licensed Indiana navigator at Putnam County Hospital, 301-7626.

Eligibility will depend on whether the participant:

1. Does not currently have coverage or will be losing coverage.

2. Has an employer who does not offer health insurance coverage.

3. Makes more than 138 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (around $17,832 for a single-person household).
