The Mary Allison Children’s Trust recently stepped up to provide funds for new initiatives at Bainbridge and Roachdale elementary schools.

The first program, funded in the amount of $1,500, was for teaching Body Safety at both schools. The program is offered through Susie’s Place and gives students the knowledge of appropriate and inappropriate touch.

“With the increase in human trafficking, sexual abuse, cyberbullying and bullying in schools, this program is much needed,” Roachdale Elementary guidance counselor Dan McMurtry said.

The organization noted that the program is required by the state, and that this is the fifth year of it being taught at North Putnam Schools.

The second program, funded in the amount of $700, was for a disc golf course at Bainbridge Elementary. This will allow students to be active and get introduced to the game.

“Along with the being active, the students will experiment with releasing the disc at different angles and learn how flight is affected,” said Bainbridge Elementary physical education teacher Curtis Lawrence.

“The board members look forward to coming back in the spring to see the course and the students participate in this activity,” added Mary Allison board member Anthony Wireman.
