Nobody has been injured following a house fire that called area fire departments to Greencastle’s west side Monday morning.

The Greencastle Fire Department was toned out at approximately 8:50 a.m. for a structure fire at 208 W. Walnut St. They arrived on the scene to find the back porch ablaze.

Coming on the scene with two engines, GFD requested a box alarm. The Cloverdale, Madison Township and Fillmore volunteer fire departments each responded with an engine. Meanwhile, the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department covered GFD’s station.

Putnam County EMS was also on hand, while units from the Greencastle Police Department redirected traffic away from the scene. Duke Energy also arrived and shut off electricity to the house.

Greencastle Fire Assistant Chief Rob Frank told the Banner Graphic that the fire was quickly extinguished. The house is not considered a total loss, with the back porch sustaining direct damage. The inside mostly suffered smoke damage.

Frank said that GFD Investigator Kenneth Shepherd had surveyed the house. While a definite origin has not been determined, the fire has been ruled as accidental.

According to Putnam County GIS, the house is listed to Jackie Jackson of Greencastle.

Walnut Street was opened back up to traffic shortly after 10 a.m. However, fire crews remained on the scene until about 11 a.m.
