Monday, April 19, 2021

With a goal of “keeping Greencastle beautiful,” Greencastle Clean City Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 24.

City of Greencastle trash customers are invited to dispose of trash and large waste items free of charge rain or shine at the Greencastle High School main parking lot from 8 a.m. to noon at 910 E. Washington St.

The service is only for city trash customers, who have received a letter in the mail recently detailing what items can be disposed of.

Clean City Day is free of charge with proof of residency, a copy of a utility bill or the flyer customers received by mail.

Items that will be accepted are:

-- Household furniture, mattresses, large toys, small appliances, large appliances (limit one), microwaves and television sets (limit two).

-- Carpeting tied in three-foot bundles.

-- Small (limited) amounts of construction debris. No contractor, business or remodeling companies permitted.

-- Automobile tires (limit four). No tractor or large equipment tires accepted.

-- No yard waste will be allowed at high school site (the Yard Waste Site will be open 9 a.m.-noon. Saturday at 2362 S CR 250 West, and will be of no charge to Greencastle trash customers that day).

While the Clean City Day effort is under way in the main GHS parking lot, the Greencastle City Police Drug Take Back Day will be ongoing in the upper parking lot from 9 a.m. until noon.

Residents are advised that disposing of unused medications by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash is highly discouraged. Both methods pose potential safety and health hazards.

Only pills or patches will be accepted. No liquids or needles.

No questions are asked. The drugs are collected and then incinerated.
