Special Park Board meeting on LWCF Grant Thursday night

Monday, May 24, 2021

On Thursday evening, May 27 at 7 p.m. in City Hall, the Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners will conduct a special board meeting to discuss an application for federal grant funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant offered by the State of Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a 50 percent matching, reimbursing federal assistance program. Local applicants may request a maximum of $500,000 ($1 million total project) in LWCF assistance toward park acquisition and construction of outdoor recreation facilities.

The Greencastle Board of Park Commissioners intends to submit an application requesting LWCF program funds for the further development of Robe-Ann Park.

The plan will address the flow of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and ADA concerns through a redesign of the roadways, sidewalks, access routes, designated parking lots and central restrooms. Two new picnic shelters, basketball court, bocce ball courts, permanent cornhole boards, and the creation of a festival plaza are planned.

The public is invited to attend and will have the opportunity to review plans for the project. Attendees are asked to wear masks.
