Franklin Eugene 'Gene' Cox

Franklin Eugene “Gene” Cox, 88, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

Born July 17, 1932 in Greencastle, he was the son of William F. and Golden G. “Glennie” (Richardson) Cox and was graduate of Reelsville High School.

Gene had worked at DePauw University for more than 20 years, retiring in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Barbra (Bassett) Cox; children Larry E. (Judy) Cox, Linda Cowin (Larry), Madonna J. Cox, Darrin (Kathy) Cox and Juanita M. Cox; a sister, JoAnne Green; stepchildren Kenny Bassett, Nancy (Jeff) Capps, Cindy Stapert and Jim (Trinka) Bassett; grandchildren Kimberly Cox, Russell Stage, Jennifer Hammond, Rodney Stage, William Eugene Barnett III, Garner E. Austin and Devin M. Patterson; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma J. (Gardner) Cox and brothers Jack and William “Bill” Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 1 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. A private family interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.
