Kitchen Duty

Wednesday, June 30, 2021
Greencastle Middle School cafeteria has received a $400 grant from West Central Solid Waste District for efforts to recycle, or in this case thinking outside of the box and trying to reduce the amount of waste and cut back on costs in the kitchen. GMS cafeteria manager Debby Zaring reached out in search of ways her kitchen could combat this growing problem, earning a win-win for her efforts as she got to ensure a job for the students from the high school as dishwashers as well as purchasing bowls to be used over and over again, cutting back on trash and the rising cost in Styrofoam products and shipping. With the purchase of reusable bowls and fruit cups, she can cut down on kitchen costs as well as provide a visually bright colorful display to entice students to try more vegetables and fruits.
