County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Tuesday

• At 4:41 p.m. Travis G. Gray, 32, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and disorderly conduct.

• At 1:51 p.m. Daniel I. Spicer, 40, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for theft of a firearm.

• At 1:36 p.m. Tonja L. Norris, 52, Greencastle, was booked in for residential entry, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

Monday

• At 2:31 p.m. Christian D. Patino, 23, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 11:49 a.m. Quinton B. Taylor, 26, Martinsville, was booked in for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

City Police

A 25-year-old Greencastle man is facing robbery and battery charges following a Monday incident at the Greenmart gas station and convenience store on Bloomington Street.

• At 10:57 p.m. Monday Anthony M. Leonard, 25, Greencastle, was arrested on South Street by Sgt. Brad Hiattt. Leonard was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for battery resulting in bodily injury and robbery.

Police said Leonard took approximately $8 in drinks and snack cakes and struck the store clerk who confronted him when he tried to leave without paying for the items.

Two other recent arrests were reported by GPD.

• At 4:07 a.m. Wednesday, Travis J. Beil, 25, Carbon, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown at a Castlebury apartment.

Beil was incarcerated on a Parke County warrant for violation of probation in a burglary of a dwelling case. He was also held on a Shelby County warrant.

• At 10:17 p.m. Monday Chad A. Buttery, 40, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Angela Taylor.

Buttery was taken into custody on Bloomington Street for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to nine incidents:

• At 8:32 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, GFD was notified of a transformer on fire in front of 220 Shadowlawn Ave. Firefighters arrived at 8:37 and used a water cannon to put out a grass fire. Meanwhile, Duke Energy extinguished the transformer. Duke repaired the transformer, and GFD went back into service at 9:28 p.m.

• At 11:07 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, GFD was dispatched to 3333 S. U.S. 231 for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:15 and could not find a cause for the alarm. The alarm was unable to be reset. GFD went back into service at 11:53 p.m.

• At 2:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:23 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:37 p.m.

• At 1:37 a.m. last Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:46 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:59 a.m.

• At 9:53 p.m. last Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:55 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:07 p.m.

• At 11:47 a.m. last Sunday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident at 57 W. CR 200 North. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11:54 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 12:16 p.m.

• At 10:48 p.m. last Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:46 and could not find a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:59 a.m.

• At 5:09 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to ResCare Community Living for a smoke alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:12 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset prior to GFD arriving. GFD went back into service at 5:16 p.m.

• At 5:39 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Putnam County Hospital to manage a landing zone for multiple medical helicopters. Firefighters arrived at 5:43 and did so along with assisting with patient care. GFD went back into service at 7:17 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 10 medical assists and had five disregards.
