Newby, Lawless and Shaner finish seasons at regional

INDIANAPOLIS – Three Putnam County golfers took part in last week’s IHSAA Girls’ Golf Regional at Smock GC hosted by Roncalli.

North Putnam’s Ashley Lawless and Greencastle’s Kadence Shaner both capped their high school careers with the round on Friday with South Putnam junior Madie Newby also among the individuals players at the event.

Newby shot the lowest of the trio, turning in a round of 106 while Lawless carded a 110 and Shaner finished off the round on 119.

Carmel won the regional with a score of 301. Westfield was the closest challenger on 206 while Center Grove was the third team to advance to the state finals with a round of 325.

Northview, winners of their own sectional, finished 12th on 385 with Terre Haute North 10 strokes back in 13th on 395 and Terre Haute South a stroke back on 396, finishing 15th as the other two representatives of the sectional.

Lebanon, who won the Attica sectional, finished eighth on 353 with Southmont three shots back on 356, finishing 10th and Western Boone placing 14th on 395 as the other two representatives of the sectional.

Westfield’s Samantha Brown won a playoff over Carmel’s Ava Hedrick to earn medalist honors after both golfers shot 72.

The five individual advancers to the IHSAA Girls’ Golf State Finals included Ava Ray of Franklin Community, Christina Pfefferkorn of Guerin Catholic, Addison Meadows of Southmont, Becky Williams of University and Addison Eccheveria of Zionsville.
