In a ceremony Friday afternoon, Lori S. White was installed as the 21st president of DePauw University — the first woman and first person of color to assume the office.

With a theme of "Rise," based on Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise," the event was highlighted with inspirational song and poetry as White turned the event into a true celebration.

    Good luck.

By the way, what this means is that the majority of students at DPU are not rabid leftists like the admin and faculty and therefore feel like their opinions are invalidated.

Universities are terribly out of touch with reality, existing in a insular echo chamber of micro-utopian socialist ignorance. (That's free speech)

  • Elitist demand conformity.

You will listen and obey or you will be othered.

They demand your resources to keep their power and to keep you under control.

No dissent allowed. Censors will dictate your speech for you.

    Especially, NO MEAN TWEETS!

Get back in line deplorables...you will never be in the room.

  • Everyone in our community should read the link from the first comment. It is a viable commentary about what is under our very noses.

  • DePauw ranked dead last out of 154 colleges for tolerance of free speech, according to that link. I'd like to see Ms. White's response to that.

  • I think we already do

  • Real Clear has proven itself to be a far-right propaganda news site in recent years, with several examples of unethical journalism practices. Which is why nobody pays attention to them anymore. They are funded by right-wing group donations, including this survey that was also conducted by them, and is far from scientific.

It's all part of this weird push by conservatives to bully colleges into hosting and paying for controversial right-wing guest speakers, and to stop student protesting aka free speech.....

  • Confirmed.

  • DPU doesn't invite any speakers with opposing views, only the leftist and BLM Marxist are invited. Well, there is the feckless republicans they have in, they're harmless enough.

Bring in Candace Owens if you want an equal balance of opposing views, that would balance out the speakers they have now.

She checks all the intersectionality boxes.

  • When WAS the last time a conservative speaker was invited to DePauw? I haven't been in Putnam County long enough to know. Has ANY conservative speaker ever been invited to DePauw?

  • Prince,

Don't hold your breath waiting...they don't know any.

  • Prince - Off topic

Go online and find the latest Project Veritas video that shows a Pfizer scientist on site spilling the truth about their clot shots.

Everything we thought was true is coming out about the scamdemic!

  • Conspiracy theories are a much bigger threat to our Democracy than free speech or Covid ever could be.

  • DIRESTRAITS-I'm familiar with this. I read an lengthy article concerning protein spikes and how the current vaccines were not meant to deal with all the variants each spike could offer.

Your link also agrees very much with a presentation I watched on television by an Israeli scientist who took the time to explain what a protein spike was.

I don't believe your link has anything to do with a conspiracy. It's just the nature of the virus.

  • James O’Keefe. Lol on that whack job of a website. And your mantra is fake news. That’s disappointingly not surprising.

  • POSH: I recall Dan Quayle speaking at DePauw in the 80's. He may have been the last conservative to speak there.

  • They have had many, considering the new definition of conservative- any one right of a leftist/ socialist. The hate being acted out right now on a couple of senators is a living example of the NSCL party today.

I encourage all to start reading the bill at question. You will be amazed what it is in it. It would be a great project by our BG staff to list ALL the items in the bill and the amount of money attributed to the items. I have little hope that the SCL congregants will have 2nd thoughts but might help open minded folk decide on their own rather than having others tell you what you should think.

  • Yeah those scary Leftist and Socialist! Remember when they stormed the US Capitol and had that failed coup in January? Oh, wait, thats right, it wasnt them.

  • Playbook section called deflection. Also playbook section titled- call all non SCL's Trumpists, etc.

Also playbook section called- ignore issues

    1. I understand deflection and don't have confidence in being able to engage in real conversation with certain political theologies.

    2. I am and was not a supporter of the past President so I don't fit that charge. Have also been on record against the violence in DC. Actually against all violence. SCL's only against violence they disagree with.

    3. I offered a way to educate on the current bill being discussed. That should spur nothing but positives since a citizen would be educating him/her/neutral self on a significant policy bill. Don't see real negatives in that.

What I haven't figured out yet is what is more sad- people aggressively supporting something they don't know and can't intellectually defend or that they choose to not learn what they are actually for or against.

-- Posted by beg on Tue, Oct 5, 2021, at 2:08 PM
  • OR 4. They choose not to waste their time defending something to someone that doesnt really care and just wants to label everyone a leftist/socialist. Its funny how you always talk out of both sides of your mouth. You constantly label people but then clutch your pearls when someone does it to you.

    5. I highly doubt you have actually read the bill. So dont act like you can educate anyone on anything. You have probably gleaned pieces of it that was fed to you via your chosen form of media.

    -- Posted by BJCP96 on Tue, Oct 5, 2021, at 2:26 PM
  • Also, where can I get a copy of this playbook you are always going on about? Did you write it?

    -- Posted by BJCP96 on Tue, Oct 5, 2021, at 2:27 PM
  • I understand we aren't going to be able to make a conversation on the issues so will move on. I will answer your questions and then just move forward.

    4. Don't label everyone SCL but understand why you may be sensitive to that label and how that influences your perspectives. I assume you think I am male. I don't mind being labeled when accurate. Label me a centrist and you would be accurate. Label me just right of middle and you would be accurate. Most of us fit a political label and should be comfortable when labeled as such. As for both sides of the mouth, I believe that no political theology has all the answers nor complete answers. Many times, solutions are made up of components from multiple political theologies. I have come to understand that is very hard for those who are closed to ideas outside of their politcal theology.

    5. I haven't read the entire bill yet but will continue to plow thru it. I definitely will not espouse a final decision of support or not to support until I would be fully educated.

Would you? Once again, I didn't say I would educate. I also didn't take a position. I just encouraged citizens to read it for themselves. I have heard pieces from different news sources, both rightists and leftist outlets. My perspectives have come from what I have read in the bill so far.

I understand your perspectives will be shaded by your assumptions. That is ok.

We are way off subject and I helped get us there. In addition I fell into the "deflection" from the real point.

I trust your day will finish well and maybe we will be able to engage in meaningful conversation moving forward.

    Cheers!
