Menzel, York and Sczcerbik advance to Shelbyville Semi-State

INDIANAPOLIS — At a soggy Ben Davis, Greencastle’s Charlie Menzel, South Putnam’s Dunkin York and Cloverdale’s Ella Szczerbik advanced to the IHSAA Shelbyville Cross Country Semi-State.

Menzel finished 28th in the boys’ race in 17:34.7 while York was 32nd in 17:40.2. Szczerbik finished 31st in the girls’ race in 21:38.7.

Among the other county runners at the event, Abigail Nees finished 44th overall in the girls’ race in 22:28.6 while Daphanie Geiger was 52nd overall in 23:21.2 and Molly Havenor was 68th overall in 24:27.1. South Putnam’s Sarah Jones finished 62nd overall in 23:49.7 while North Putnam’s Katie Fry finished 67th overall in 24:20.2

In the boys’ race North Putnam’s Brayden Monnett finished in 53rd place in 18:32.1 while Jeremiah Miles finished in 73rd place in 19:23.9. South Putnam’s Keaton Chew finished 60th place in 18:43.9.

Zionsville won both regional titles with the boys’ team taking the first four sports to win on 21 points while the girls’ team won on 39 points..

Avon, Brownsburg and Plainfield advanced both teams to next week’s semistate with Perry Meridian’s boys’ team and Southport’s girls’ team also advancing to the semistate
