SAWs completes 13th year of service in Putnam County

Monday, November 15, 2021

SAWs (Servants at Work), a mission of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church that provides improved access to the homes of disabled residents in Putnam County, has completed its 13th year of service to the community.

In 2021, SAWs completed 20 projects that include handicap ramps and steps as requested by its clients. This brings the total for 13 years to 233 projects provided to the disabled of Putnam County.

GPC SAWs is an affiliate of the statewide Saws organization SAWsRamps.org, located in Indianapolis. Due to this relationship, the local organization is sometimes requested to provide help to disabled clients located in the surrounding counties.

Currently there are 32 SAWs affiliates covering most of Indiana. There are also two other affiliates located in Virginia and Arizona, these being the result of retired SAWs builders who relocated to these states after long service in Indiana.

“So, you see the SAWs mission does continue to grow and those who have participated in the mission keep going even after relocation,” local SAWs representative John Anderson said.

As it begins to plan its 14th year of service to Putnam County, SAWs is once again looking for clients. If you are disabled and need help accessing your home or business, contact SAWS by calling 653-5713. If you are located outside of Putnam County, contact SAWs at 317-844-7664.

Remember that the work of SAWs is provided to qualified disable residents at no cost. Also understand that SAWs is an expensive mission with the average ramp costing $1,200 in 2021.

These costs are expected to increase next year due to inflation. Due to this, SAWs is again seeking community partnerships through monetary donations to continue the work of SAWs into the new year.

Those wishing to financially support SAWS may send donations to Greencastle Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 512, Greencastle, IN 46135.
