Eleanor M. Taylor

Eleanor M. Taylor, 93, of Greencastle and formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022.

She was born on May 23, 1928 in Chrisman, Ill., to Chandler O. Mitchell and Leona Edwards Mitchell.

Eleanor was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and had taught home living in the Wayne Township MSD.

Her parents and three brothers, Chandler Mitchell, John Mitchell and James Mitchell, preceded her in death.

She married the love of her life, James M. Taylor on Dec. 24, 1949.

Surviving are her husband of 72 years, James; three children, Michael J. Taylor, Jane Taylor-Holmes and Janet K. Genovese and husband Joseph; six grandchildren, Laren Barnhill and husband Brad, Melissa Taylor, James Taylor and wife Alex, Richard Taylor and wife Meagan and Ellie Genovese and Hannah Genovese; 12 great-grandchildren, Christopher Owens, Keaton Barnhill, Mitchell Owens, Connor Owens, Katie Owens, Averee Barnhill, Brady Barnhill, Abigail Taylor, Isabelle Taylor, Aadan Taylor, Jordyn Coupe and Brooke Coupe, Harper and Chandler Taylor; sister-in-law Joan Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was a longtime member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, where she was instrumental in the Ugly Quilts project through the Rainbow Circle. This project provided quilts for the homeless.

She started the Red Hat Society in the Summit Place Retirement Community.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St., with Pastor Mike Biggs officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be at Boone Hutcheson Cemetery.

The family gratefully acknowledges Pat Conerly for her longtime care of both Eleanor and James as well as Dr. Craig Johnson and the caring staff of Mill Pond.
