LETTER: Great job, snow removers

To the Editor:

Going to bed Thursday, many of us were thinking, ‘How are we going to get out in the morning?’ But, at 9 Friday morning, I heard this machine out my window with a big pile of snow and he was gone. A short time later, I looked out and three men were walking away with their shovels and not only the driveway but the front porch was cleared.

Saturday I needed to get to Kroger. On the way I drove past a church, the lot cleared for Sunday parking. The Kroger lot was different. You had to look for a place to park next to a big tall snow pile. At church Sunday, I overheard talking about the fun several had shoveling some of the older folks’ driveways.

About 24 years ago, I was told older men should be careful shoveling snow. For some reason I didn’t hear my wife say “Honey, I’ll take care of that!” We lived in the country, in fact we lived there in 1978 with that big 36-hour blizzard.

So older folk need to be very grateful for the younger ones ... shoveling their snow off their driveways, their sidewalks and even their front porches. After this was all done my thinking was, “Why didn’t I offer them a cup of coffee?”
