Darrel Thomas, Carrie Thompson withdraw from primary races
Days after the primary election filing deadline seemed to finalize the May 3 ballot, two candidates have withdrawn their names from consideration.
Former Putnam County Councilman Darrel Thomas will not be seeking a new term on the council. Likewise, one-time clerk’s deputy Carrie Thompson is no longer running for clerk.
Thomas’s withdrawal means District 3 Republican voters will not have to choose between the four-term councilman and incumbent Danny Wallace, the man who replaced Thomas four years ago when he did not seek a fifth term.
Meanwhile, Thompson’s withdrawal reduces the race for the Republican clerk nomination to a pair of candidates — current Putnam County Recorder Tracy Bridges against Chief Deputy Clerk Debbie Ensor.
There are still a number of contested races at the county level on the Republican ballot, including Jerrod Baugh, Steve Hibler and Dwight Simmons for sheriff; Heather Gilbert and Lori Hallett-Talbert for recorder; and David Penturf and Greg Williams for surveyor.
There are no Democrats on the primary ballot.
