Ina Alice (Alspaugh) Oney

Monday, February 14, 2022

Ina Oney, 76, of Greencastle, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, fell asleep in death after a long fight with dementia-related illness on Feb. 6, 2022, at the Village of Avon. Beside her was her husband of 59 years, Glen Oney.

Ina was born in Warsaw on July 2, 1945. She and her twin brother Ivan were the sixth and seventh of nine children born to Alvin and Lulu Alspaugh.

The Alspaugh family started studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses early in Ina’s life. She was baptized on Nov. 10, 1970.

Ask anyone who knew Ina what they remembered of her, and you would always get the same response: Ina was the kindest, warmest, most self-sacrificing woman they had ever met. All three of her chidlren have hundreds of shared experiences showing her devotion and love for them. She put herself last in everything and she will be deeply missed by anyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Glen Oney, Avon; children Teresa Venable, Avon, Todd Oney and Ty Oney, both of Greencastle; grandsons Austin Venable and Alex Venable, both of Avon; siblings Gary Alspaugh, Mentone, Naomi Lehman, Corpus Christi, Texas, Mary Wolfe, Scott Mills, Ore., John Alspaugh, Spring Hill, Fla., and Esther Tucker, New Port Richey, Fla.

Ina was preceded in death by her parents, sister Diana Bell Alspaugh and Coraethel McConnell and twin brother Ivan Alspaugh.

She truly embodied the scripture at Acts 20:35 where the Apostle Paul tells us Jesus’ words: “There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving,” which is why she was always happy. Based on her hope for the future (John 5:28-29), Ina would look at each one of us, smile, wink and say, “I’ll see you soon, Luvi.”

A memorial service will be held via Zoom on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. for more information, call or text Todd Oney at 765-337-2234.
