County Jail

A number of people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently:

Monday

• At 12:06 a.m. Kevin J. Stezlec, 50, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for battery against a public safety officer, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Sunday

• At 6:50 p.m. Kimberly S. Hanks, 42, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

• At 12:18 p.m. Earl C. Nicholson, 33, Cloverdale, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and driving with a suspended license.

• At 10:54 a.m. Gary T. Leitzman, 46, Fillmore, was lodged at the jail for burglary.

Saturday

• At 10:59 a.m. Dale E. Inman, 24, Greenwood, was taken into custody on a warrant.

Friday

• At 5:32 p.m. Lauren N. Landaw, 37, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.

• At 12:01 a.m. Joshua J. Wilkinson, 40, Spencer, was booked in for driving with a suspended license.

• At 9:55 a.m. Michael A. Kessler, 74, Plainfield, was lodged at the jail for maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 9:50 a.m. Terry B. King II, 35, Clayton, was taken into custody on two counts of nonsupport of a dependent child.

•At 5:28 a.m. Troy M. Wardlow, 25, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 4:23 a.m. Darric R. Nail, 40, Greencastle, was booked in for domestic battery.

Thursday

• At 11:43 p.m. Maranda R. Stone, 32, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for unlawful possession of a syringe and criminal trespass.

• At 12:56 p.m. Christopher M. Caldwell, 39, Clinton, was taken into custody for theft.

• At 12:14 p.m. Jason L. Jones, 42, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful possession of a syringe and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 12:12 p.m. Algier J. Flippin Sr., 40, Indianapolis, was booked in for trafficking with an inmate.

• At 8:19 a.m. Kelly B. Copsey, 30, Thousand Oaks, Calif., was lodged at the jail for possession of marijuana.

City Police

One weekened arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 3:39 p.m. Sunday, Jay S. Prewitt, 54, Greencastle, was arrested by Reserve Officer Dustin Martin.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Prewitt was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Under portable breathalyzer testing, he registered .188 percent blood-alcohol concentration.

Two persons were issued summons in separate recent incidents:

• At 11:54 a.m. Friday, Dustin Tippin, 46, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court by Officer Nick Eastham.

Stopped on Frazier Street, Tippin was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Jalen Satterfield, 21, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court by Officer Luke Brown.

Stopped in the bowling alley parking lot along South Jackson Street, Satterfield was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Sheriff’s Office

• At 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, Evan R. Scott, 28, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier when he hit a deer.

The car sustained major front-end damage and had to be towed. Deputy Todd Hopkins estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8 p.m. on Friday, Reachel Ornduff, 24, Brazil, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2019 Ford Fusion when she hit a tree that had fallen in the road.

The tree caused minor damage to the vehicle, and was moved from the road.

Deputy Hopkins estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:50 a.m. on Friday, Leland Hartley, 41, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

The pickup was towed. Deputy Josh Clark estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine incidents recently:

• At 6:36 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 611 Ridge Ave. for an electrical hazard. Firefighters arrived at 6:38 and were advised by the residents that they heard a pop and saw smoke coming from a wire near their deck. There was no immediate hazard, and power to the wire was isolated. Firefighters advised that an electrician be contacted. GFD went back into service at 6:54 p.m.

• At 12:34 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Mansfield House on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:37 p.m. and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:42 p.m.

• At 7:22 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Minshall House on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:26 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:31 p.m.

• At 8:28 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Lucy Rowland Hall on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:32 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:43 p.m.

• At 9:44 p.m. on Saturday, GFD received a direct call for an electrical hazard at 313 Elm St. Firefighters arrived at 9:47 and found that an outlet with a phone charger plugged in had malfunctioned and was damaged. Power to the outlet was isolated and firefighters advised that an electrician be consulted. GFD went back into service at 10:07 p.m.

• At 5:59 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 130 Woods Edge Blvd. for a carbon monoxide incident. Firefighters arrived at 6:06 a.m. and were advised that a car was inside the garage with a door open. The air quality was monitored and found to be safe. GFD went back into service at 6:20 p.m.

• At 9:26 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Moose Lodge 1592 for a vehicle fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:29 and found a truck with a fire in the engine compartment. The fire was extinguished and the owner was contacted. GFD went back into service at 10:03 p.m.

• At 1:17 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to the Green Center for the Performing Arts on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:22 and determined that alarm panel indicated an error with the system. DePauw Public Safety was advised to contact maintenance. GFD went back into service at 2:10 a.m.

• At 2:25 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:30 and found that multiple detector heads were tampered with. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:49 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 12 medical assists, did not find an incident on one run and staged for emergency medical services on another.
