Barbara J. Spence

Barbara J. Spence, 85, of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1936 in East Bernstadt, Ky., to Harvey Hensley and Ollie Patton Hensley.

Barbara was a graduate of Hazel Green High School in East Bernstadt, Ky.

She married William F. Spence on March 19, 1956.

Barbara dedicated her life to her family as a loving wife and mother. She was an active member of the Greencastle First Baptist Church since 1957 serving in various ways including in the choir and in children’s ministry.

Barbara was a member of the Merry Jills Extension homemaker club.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Spence; a daughter, Debra Spence; two brothers, Emil Hensley and Clark Hensley; four sisters, Imogene Elza, Christeen Hensley, Janie Guinn and Janet Barnett.

Barbara is survived by one brother, Ted Hensley; four sisters, Alene Holcomb, Betty Jo Reed, Judy Caudill and Joyce Oviedo; and a daughter, Lisa Spence.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the service at 1 p.m. officiated by Pastor Tom Blodgett. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
