County Jail

Ten people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 9:45 p.m. Marcus W. McCombs, 36, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for criminal trespass and two counts of criminal mischief.

• At 3:15 p.m. Daniel A. Bruce, 37, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for burglary, theft and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 4 a.m. Brandon C. Dunagan, 37, Coatesville, was housed at the jail for battery, strangulation and theft.

Saturday

• At 5:11 p.m. Joshua A. Vanover, 34, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 11:04 a.m. Leilani M. Hamm, 33, Greencastle, was taken into custody for animal cruelty.

Friday

• At 10:03 p.m. Cole T. Cooper, 29, Centerpoint, was housed at the jail for domestic battery.

• At 4:06 p.m. Sean P. McClamrock, 42, Terre Haute, was booked in for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 10:50 a.m. Joshua J. Barley, 29, Reelsville, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and on a Clay County warrant.

Thursday

• At 10:07 p.m. Michelle L. Rickey, 49, Greencastle, was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction and resisting law enforcement.

• 10:30 a.m. Coty A. Gray, 27, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for theft.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Joseph A. Buis, 51, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman as a result of a two-vehicle accident.

Buis was booked into the Putnam County Jail for driving while intoxicated and driving per se. He registered a blood-alcohol concentration of .22 percent after portable breathalyzer testing.

Buis was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango when he turned too wide at 3G Bowl on South Jackson Street and struck a 2001 Acura, driven by Alan Vawter, Camby.

One recent summons was issued by city officers.

• At 2:45 a.m. Monday, Rafael Rodriguez-Cambrello, 55, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court on 10th Street by Officer Jared McDaniel for operating without a valid license.

One recent citation was issued by city officers.

• At 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Travis Baire, 24, Brazil, was ticketed by Capt. Inman.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Baire was cited for having an expired license plate (Feb. 14. 2021).

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent crashes.

• At 8:43 a.m. on Sunday, Donald L. Schilling, 49, Bainbridge, was southbound on County Road 600 East in a 2018 GMC Canyon when he hit two deer.

Deputy Todd Hopkins estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, Oceaia N. Boetjer, 31, Brazil, was northbound on U.S. 231 north of U.S. 40 in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu.

Boetjer told Deputy Joshua Clark she hit a slick spot in the road, overcorrected and went into the ditch.

The car was towed. Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6:14 a.m. on Thursday, Cody D. Wyatt, 23, Reelsville, was eastbound on County Road 650 South in a 2009 Ford Escape when he came upon a downed utility pole from high winds earlier in the morning.

It was still dark and visibility was low, so Wyatt collided with the pole, then lost control and hit a fence.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 3:23 a.m. on Thursday, Billy G. Rexroat, 65, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 450 North in a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage when he collided with a tree that was down in the road.

The vehicle suffered heavy front-end damage and had to be towed. Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 5:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Jesse A. Hilbert, 19, Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 1000 South in a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado. Joshua D. LaVoine, 23, Cloverdale, was eastbound in a 2018 GMC Sierra.

As the two vehicles met, they sideswiped one another, with Hilbert then losing control and driving off the left side of the road, where it almost hit a power pole. LaVoine’s truck spun around 180 degrees and ended up facing west.

Both men told Deputy Soilleux that they do not like each other, and that the other had crossed the centerline on purpose in order to hit him.

Hilbert’s vehicle had to be towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents recently:

• At 12:19 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Child Protective Services for a gas odor. Firefighters arrived at 12:29 and could not detect a gas leak on the property. Staff were advised to contact GFD if they smelled gas later on. GFD went back into service at 12:55 p.m.

• At 12:51 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Jack’s Trash Service for a vehicle fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:59 and found a trash truck with its contents ablaze. Putting out the fire was delayed due to trash piled around the truck, but it was controlled by 1:48 p.m. Firefighters were advised that the truck was out of service and that a torch was being used to cut up parts. Meanwhile, the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department covered GFD’s station. GFD went back into service at 3:34 p.m.

• At 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 313 E. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:40 and determined the alarm was caused by smoke from a faulty microwave. The microwave was unplugged and maintenance was contacted. GFD went back into service at 7 p.m.

• At 8:49 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:54 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:08 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed three medical assists and had one disregard.
