Allen R. Asbury

Allen R. Asbury, 68, died on Monday, April 4, 2022 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was born on April 7, 1953 in East St. Louis, Mo., to Glen Atwell Asbury and Kathryn Louise Jarvis and grew up in Manteno, Ill., where he graduated from Manteno High School.

On April 9, 1972, he married Norma Lee Cole in Fillmore. Allen enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 14, 1971 and received an honorable discharge with the rank of gunnery sergeant on Sept. 25, 1984 while stationed at Cherry Point, N.C. More recently, he was self-employed in the construction industry.

Survivors include his mother, Goldie Asbury; wife Norma Asbury of Brooklyn, NY; three children, Jason Asbury (David) of Brooklyn, NY, Jeremy Asbury (Jessica) of Louisville, Colo., and Judy Anderson (Flint) of Coatesville; a sister, Ruth Johnson, of Winter Haven, Fla.; a brother, Roy Asbury (Alison), of Orlando, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Susie Thompson, of Greencastle; a grandson, Chancy Anderson; a great-granddaughter, Bailey Anderson; and seven nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded in death by his father, Glen Asbury, and his mother, Kathryn Louise Jarvis.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 at New Hope Baptist Church, 113 W. Central Avenue, Lake Wales, Fla.
