Shirley Mae Swim

Shirley Mae Swim, 84, of Brazil, passed away on April 11, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born in Greencastle on Nov. 29, 1937, the daughter of Eli Brattain and Malinda Maurine (Elder) Aker.

She was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mrs. Swim was a member of Parke County Quilters, was a Master Gardener, and was in multiple Extension Homemaker Clubs. Shirley enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking, but above all she loved taking care of her family.

She was a former member of Lena United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Jim Swim; five children, Debbie Stone, Rosedale, Donna Moats (Kevin), Terre Haute, Danny Swim (Terri), Spencerville, Darlene Derifield (Wally), Plymouth, and Denise Mills (Ryan), Fayetteville, Ark; a brother, John E. Aker, Owensboro, Ky.; a sister, Barbara Aker, Greencastle; 17 grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Taylor, Kayla, Savannah, Mackenzie, Randy, Jacob, Justin, Tyler, Nathaniel, Burke, Elizabeth, Grace, Luke, Olivia and Jozie; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Steve Blaydes officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 15 and one hour prior to time of service on Saturday.
