Self-reflection good for identifying philanthropic purpose

Wednesday, April 13, 2022

I am truly honored to lead the Putnam County Community Foundation in this next chapter of its story.

As I have talked with family and friends, neighbors, and community members about my new role, I’m often asked, “What exactly does the community foundation do?” My go-to response has always been that the “Putnam County Community Foundation brings together the financial resources of individuals, businesses, nonprofits and other philanthropic-minded entities to support charitable initiatives.”

But in reality, what we do can’t be summed up in a single sentence or even a paragraph. We are here to help our community identify their philanthropic purpose and ultimately connect our community members to the resources they need to positively impact their community and the causes they are passionate about.

As you look to identify your philanthropic purpose and look for ways to get involved, I encourage you to take some time for self-reflection. Reflect on your vision, available resources and your desired legacy. Thinking through these areas will allow you to determine what you’d like to achieve, what resources (time, talents or treasures) you currently have at your disposal, and whether or not this is a single or multi-generational philanthropic goal. What I love most about this process is anyone, at any stage of life, can begin to evaluate their philanthropic goals and purpose.

If you are seeking resources to aid you in achieving your philanthropic goals, we have an array of resources available to our community members on our website. For example, you can access a comprehensive list of local nonprofits and food pantries serving Putnam County, to name a few. In addition, we recently launched a community calendar on our website where nonprofits and other organizations can post community-wide programs, fundraisers, nonprofit events, and volunteer opportunities. So, if you are looking to get involved with and support a local organization, be sure to check out this new resource.

If you want to connect with causes you are passionate about but don’t know where to begin, come in and see us. We love connecting our community members with causes they care about. We have more than 400 nonprofits serving Putnam County and even more charitable initiatives. If there isn’t a cause that aligns with your philanthropic goals, we can discuss the next steps in helping you meet those aspirations.

If you haven’t already, be sure to like us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram to stay updated on our donors, nonprofits, and community members’ incredible work. You may even get inspired by some of the causes we highlight. Additionally, you can sign up for our monthly e-newsletter at pcfoundation.org/newsletter to learn how to get involved in our community.

We are constantly exploring new ways to support our community members in their philanthropic journeys. If you have any feedback, recommendations, or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. We’d love the opportunity to connect with you and play a small role in fulfilling your philanthropic goals.
