Thursday, April 28, 2022

BRAZIL — In a pitcher’s duel for six innings, North Putnam and Northview toiled away until two runs in the seventh gave the Cougars an impressive 3-1 win over the Knights in WIC baseball play.

The visitors scored first in the fourth when Jaylen Windmiller reached base on a dropped third strike. Doug O’Hair pinch ran for Windmiller, stealing second and scoring on a Kovey Jeter single for a 1-0 lead.

Northview tied the game in the fifth when Cam Green drew a walk, stole second and was brought in on a Gavin Jones single.

A walk and an error to start the seventh, followed by a sac bunt from Zach Huff, set up a pair of ground ball RBIs from Brayden Monnett and Gunner Burress for a 3-1 lead.

Windmiller, who went the distance on the mound, sealed the deal in the seventh, outduling Knight ace Landon Carr with seven innings of four-hit baseball, giving up the single run with four strikeouts to his credit.

The Cougar win was the first loss for Northview in WIC play, leaving West Vigo as the sole unbeaten team in conference play.
