After winning two of its first three games, South Putnam had been on an eight-game slide heading into Wednesday’s WIC baseball outing against Brown County.

Both teams looked at the game as a chance to get off the bottom of the conference standings, an opportunity the hosts took with a 13-3 win in five innings.

Brown County struck first without a hit to start the game as Ethan Harcourt, after getting two strikeouts, surrendered four walks in-a-row, leading to Gavin Eyster to take to the mound and get a strikeout to end the threat.

Harcourt made amends in the bottom half of the inning with a double that scored Wyatt Mullin to tie the game at 1-1.

The host Eagles would take the lead in the second after Donald Scruggs doubled, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

Mullin would tack on a run with a single later in the inning to make it 3-1 but a promising situation with the bases loaded did not yield and further runs.

Scruggs would ground out to bring a fourth run in to start the third inning while a pair of passed balls allowed two more runs to come in, as would back-to-back singles from Mullin and Eyster for a 7-1 advantage.

Ayden Batten started the fourth with a triple, later scoring on a wild pitch, while Scruggs grounded out to bring Kyle Glasson in.

Uriah Kortz scored on a wild pitch as South Putnam hit double digits on the scoreboard while Eyster drove home a pair of runs with a single to make it 12-1 after four innings.

A walk and an error on a bunt set up the visiting Eagles to finally get on the scoreboard again on an errant throw to second base while Brady Bond hit a single to left field that plated a second run to make it 12-3, forcing South Putnam back to the plate in the fifth.

It wouldn’t take long for the hosts to end proceedings as Battin reached on a dropped third strike, moved to third on a Glasson single and scored on a passed ball to reach the run rule.
