County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 12:30 p.m. Shane E. Graves, 48, Reelsville, was housed at the jail for possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

• At 9:39 a.m. Teresa B. Hall, 55, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine.

Tuesday

• At 9:26 p.m. Maria D. C. Bailey, 24, Fort Wayne, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

• At 7:31 p.m. David A. Byers, 40, Brazil, was taken into custody for theft.

• At 10:23 a.m. Chelsea M. Casey, 30, Crawfordsville, was housed at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 11:11 p.m. May 12, Michael Travoli, 57, Greencastle, was arrested at a North Locust Street residence.

Apprehended by Officer Justin Herd, Travoli was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear in court on an original charge of driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One minor accident was investigated recently by GPD officers:

• At 4:29 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road at Calbert Way.

Both Deborah Cawthorn, 45, Greencastle, and Cheryl Robertson, 72, Cloverdale, were westbound on Indianapolis Road, approaching the stoplight at Calbert Way in slowing traffic.

Sgt. Chris Jones reported that Cawhorn’s cellphone fell to the floorboard and in trying to retrieve it, she didn’t see that traffic in front of her had stopped and her 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe struck the rear of the 2009 Toyota Avalon Robertson was driving.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six incidents between Monday evening and Wednesday evening:

• At 5:28 p.m. on Monday, GFD witnessed a motor vehicle incident in front of its station. Firefighters went soon after and cleaned up debris and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 5:42 p.m.

• At 6:58 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident on U.S. 240. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:04 p.m. and cleaned up debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 7:09 p.m.

• At 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to assist the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:21 and both departments inspected the home. The CO detector’s battery was deemed to be failing. GFD went back into service at 1:41 a.m.

• At 7:25 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Harrison Hall on the DePauw University campus for an active alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:26 and found smoke inside the building. It was determined that a water pump for a chiller had failed. GFD turned off power to the chiller and the alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:58 a.m.

• At 3:09 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to A-1 Auto Sales for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 3:14 and determined that an above-ground gas line had been hit by a tractor. The leak was secured and CenterPoint Energy was contacted. GFD went back into service at 3:23 p.m.

• At 10:01 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Longden Hall on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:05 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:14 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed five medical assists and had one run on which firefighters found no incident.
