County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 10:42 a.m. Rebecca L. Gilliam, 37, Poland, was taken into custody on a Marion County warrant.

• At 5:19 a.m. Hailey L. Olsen, 20, St. Charles, Ill., was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated and being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

Monday

• At 11:37 p.m. David S. Branigan, 50, Greencastle, was booked in for failure to register as a sex or violent offender.

• At 9:49 p.m. James E. Loyd, 48, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on two counts of domestic battery.

• At 4:51 p.m. Kyal A. Campbell, 30, Poland, was taken into custody on a Vigo County warrant.

• At 4:15 p.m. Heather A. Meagher, 38, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 9:21 a.m. Jacob N. Scobee, 24, Roachdale, was booked in for possession of marijuana.

City Police

Greencastle City Police officers reported two recent arrests:

• At 1:10 a.m. on Thursday, Stacy Cox, 52, Greencastle, was arrested at a Fairview Street residence.

Apprehended by Officer Justin Herd, Cox was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for probation violation, with an original charge of possession of methamphetamine.

He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

• At 4:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Elizabeth Sage, 33, Greencastle, was arrested at Walmart.

Taken into custody by Officer Nick Eastham, Sage was arrested for criminal trespass.

Officers also issued three recent citations:

• At 1:38 a.m. on Monday, Desiree Gibson, 37, Greencastle, was issued a citation from Officer Angela Taylor.

Stopped at Jackson and Franklin streets, Gibson was cited for driving without a license.

•At 2:38 a.m. on Saturday, Esteban Carrero, 21, Greencastle, was issued a citation on Veterans Highway.

Stopped by Reserve Officer David Clodfelter, Carrero was cited for 59 in a 40 mph zone.

•At 11:20 p.m. on Friday, May 20, Jesse Denny, 21, Greencastle was also issued a citation by Clodfelter.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Denny was cited for driving with an expired license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:54 a.m. on Wednesday, Dawn M. Fall, 55, Greencastle, was facing southbound on U.S. 231 at the eastbound entrance ramp to Interstate 70, planning to turn east in a 2016 Nissan Frontier. John G. Smith was northbound approaching the same intersection in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.

Fall told Cpl. Scott Ducker she believed that Smith was also planning to turn east, so she proceeded into the intersection. However, Smith told Ducker he was proceeding straight northbound, and when Fall crossed into his path, he could not avoid a collision.

Both vehicles were towed. Ducker estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 3:33 a.m. on Sunday, Yashasvi Phougat, 19, Fishers, was eastbound on Interstate 70 near the 38-mile marker in a 2016 Acura RDX.

Phougat was traveling in the left lane and told Cpl. Ducker she got a little too close to the guardrail and made contact. She then tried to serve back off the guardrail and lost control, making contact a second time before coming to rest.

The vehicle was towed. Ducker estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four incidents since Monday evening:

• At 5:45 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 1026 S. Indiana St. for a cat stuck in a tree. Firefighters arrived at 5:47 and used a ladder to remove the cat. GFD went back into service at 5:59 p.m.

• At 8:42 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University-owned duplex at 107 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:43 p.m. and could not determine a cause for the alarm. Police advised that a smoke detector would be cleaned and the alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:45 p.m.

• At 9:43 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Sigma Nu on the DePauw campus for a cooking fire. Firefighters arrived at 9:47 and found smoke inside due to an issue with a stove. Maintenance turned off power to the stove and food was removed from it. The property was ventilated. GFD went back into service at 10 p.m.

• At 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Bloomington Street Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:21 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 3:28 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed two medical assists and found no incident on one run during this timeframe.
