PUTNAMVILLE — Two Florida men are in the Putnam County Jail after they were found to be in possession of an estimated $1 million worth of cocaine Thursday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m., an Indiana State Trooper stopped a tractor-trailer at the 37-mile marker eastbound on Interstate 70 for a routine compliance inspection.

Leonardo Hernandez

The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as Leonardo Hernandez, 38, of Miami, with one passenger in the vehicle. During the conversation with the driver and passenger, the trooper observed criminal indicators, and a consent search revealed approximately 44 pounds of suspected cocaine.

Hernandez and the passenger, Rolando Bermudez Acevedo, 24, Orlando, were taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail. Each faces preliminary charges of Level 2 felony dealing a narcotic drug and Level 3 felony possession of a narcotic drug.

  • Good Job Trooper. Now we need the prosecutors to put them away for a very long time. No more catch and release!

  • Do the cartels now established in America have their own fleet of rigs?

Either way it’s us that gets the shaft here, we pay to house and feed them in our prison system. Or they get deported just to be let back in.

  • Watch the Netflix series Ozark. If you believe it, the cartel owns way more than a fleet of rigs. This is too small a transport for the cartel.
