Greencastle baseball season comes to an end against No. 2 Brebeuf Jesuit
DANVILLE - Brebeuf Jesuit starting pitcher, and Western Michigan bound, Sam Reed pitched a one-hit shutout to hand the Greencastle Tiger Cubs a 10-0 loss in the Danville sectional
Greencastle starter Kiefer Wilson got the first and only hit for the Cubs in the top of the first, a two-out single. The Braves’ Sam Reed struck out the side to end any threat.
Wilson sat the Braves down in order in the bottom half of the first, but Brebeuf would break through in the second. After striking out, leadoff hitter Will Schenkelberg reached first on a passed ball. Three consecutive singles, with a big two-RBI hit from Michael Finelli, sparked a four run burst for Brebeuf.
The Braves would add three more in the third, as Reed helped his own cause driving in two runs on a double to deep left center. They would add three more in the fourth to seal the victory.
Wilson took the loss for the Cubs, giving up only seven hits and walking one, while striking out five. Three Tiger Cubs errors did not help things. Reed was the winning pitcher giving up just the one single while walking two and striking out six.
Brebeuf will now face Danville in the semi-final and Tri-West will take on Cardinal Ritter in the other semi.
