Nancy Ellen Rockhill Waters

Nancy Ellen Rockhill Walters, 95, of Tempe, Ariz., died Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Friendship Village Tempe.

A small family service will be held at a later date at Stilesville Cemetery in Stilesville.

Nancy was born April 23, 1927, to Howard and Muriel (Rector) Rockhill. She graduated from Greencastle High School; DePauw University, B.A.; and Indiana University, Ph.D.

She taught at several Indiana high schools and was professor, psychology and counseling, for almost 30 years at Central Missouri State University. She worked part-time as a psychologist at Whiteman AFB hospital, at West Central Missouri Mental Health and at Behavioral Health Services, Yuma, Ariz.

She was a regent for the Daughters of the American Revolution and DAR Newsletter editor. She was 70-year-plus member of Delta Delta Delta. She belonged to the Methodist Church for more than 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max A. Smith, in 2008. Her first husband, Elwood G. Walters, died in 1994. Their five sons are Mark (Lisa) of McAllen, Texas, Joel (Carolyn) of Springfield, Mo., John (Kathleen) of Kingman, Paul (Sherry) of Blue Springs, Mo., and Adam (Jan) of Geneva, Ill. Her six grandchildren are Kristen Macken (Josh), Elizabeth Walters, Tracy Walters, Erin Rice (Cory), Adam Walters (Holly) and Hannah Brady (Zack). She had eight great-grandchildren, two stepchildren, and four stepgrandchildren.
