James Warren ‘Jim’ Surber Sr.

James Warren “Jim” Surber Sr., 75, Ladoga, passed away on June 7, 2022.

He was born in Rushville., on Nov. 18, 1946. He was the eighth born in their family of 10 children with four girls and six boys.

Jim was known for his unique drawl and never-ending quick wit. He worked hard all his life providing for his family and retired from Goodyear. He spent his retirement years living his best life, running around the countryside with Pam, listening to classic country western and watching The Duke. He was one of the last quintessential cowboys, ornery as they come, and could be recognized by his swagger. He enjoyed the simple things in life and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Edie (Richard) Bartlett, brother Donald (Jan) Surber, sister Betty Myrick, sister Karen VanSickle, brother David (Gwen) Surber and brother Kenneth Surber; his children, James Warren Surber Jr. (Jenni), Shawn Cochran Surber (Carol), Timothy Allen Surber (Tammy) and Dawn Surber; nine grandkids and eight great-grandkids; stepchildren Terri McAlister (Roger) and David Murphy; and Louise Surber, the mother of his children and first wife. In addition to his children that will miss his humor and words of wisdom, he also leaves behind extended family members Jess Testerman (Ashley) and his best friends, Pam Bush and Carl Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Surber, sister Doris, brothers Jack Surber and Richard Surber and wife Nancy Surber.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10 at Ladoga Cemetery, County Road 550 East, Ladoga.
