INDOT to host public information meeting on SR 236 work

ROACHDALE — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a public information meeting for Wednesday, July 6 regarding construction on State Road 236.

Aimed at providing an overview of the construction project under way and discussing upcoming closures, the meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Roachdale Baptist Church, 101 East St.

The project was awarded to Milestone Contractors L.P. for $9.1 million and will complete a cold central plant recycle under four separate road closures.

The project spans from U.S. 231 to just west of S.R. 75.

One of these road closures was completed last year. Currently, a stretch of road in Hendricks County, from the county line to West Street near North Salem, is closed.

INDOT announced earlier this summer that starting July 19, S.R. 236 will close between U.S. 231 and Rush Street in Roachdale.

The official detour follows U.S. 231 to U.S. 36 to S.R. 75 back to S.R. 236.

A cold central plant recycle treatment is an environmentally friendly method in which reclaimed asphalt pavement materials are combined with new asphalt and/or recycling agents to produce cold base mixtures. It involves milling off 8 to 10 inches of existing asphalt and stockpiling the millings nearby at a central location. Then it’s hauled back to the roadway and poured. This will be used as an intermediate layer, and works as a deeper treatment to restore the roadway.
