Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by city officers:

• At 6:45 p.m. Monday, a two-car accident on Indianapolis Road and the entrance to Taco Bell sent both drivers to the hospital.

The accident occurred as Mahailey Zuber, 21, Indianapolis, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2014 Honda CRV, when Bradley Benson, 40, Greencastle, exited Taco Bell and failed to yield the right of way, pulling into Zuber’s path, Officer Justin Herd reported.

Impact pushed the Benson car onto the lawn at the Speedway gas station along the north side of the road.

The Zuber car made impact with the passenger’s-side door of the Benson car, causing significant damage to the front end of her car.

Putnam County EMS responded to the scene and determined Benson needed to be taken to an Indianapolis hospital for further medical attention.

Airbags deployed in the Zuber vehicle. She was taken to Putnam County Hospital by her mother for evaluation.

Benson was ticketed for failure to yield.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene by Seniour’s.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6:07 p.m. June 25, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road near Judson Drive.

Elliott Harris, 28, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, slowing his 2017 Ford F-250 truck to turn onto Judson Drive when he was rear-ended by a 2006 PT Cruiser driven by Trenton Brown, 22, Crawfordsville.

Brown told Sgt. Brad Hiatt he was distracted looking at the gasoline prices on the Speedway station sign and did not realize Harris was slowing to turn.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

One recent speeding citation was issued by city officers:

• At 4:11 p.m. Tuesday, Joshua Lavoine, 23, Cloverdale, was ticketed by Officer Bunten.

Stopped at Zinc Mill Road and Woods Edge, Lavoine was cited for 56 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, Alexander Alvarez, 23, Miami, was northbound on County Road 675 East, south of County Road 300 North, in a 2021 Chevrolet Express FedEx truck. The Putnam County Highway Department had the road closed from County Road 200 North to Heritage Drive with “Road Closed” barricades.

However, Alvarez drove around the barricade and proceeded north, eventually encountering a 2016 Kenworth T4 Series dump truck registered to the Putnam County Highway Department and operated by Mark A. Fisher, 59, Reelsville. Alvarez initially drove around the dump truck, which was parked facing south in the northbound lane, before realizing he could proceed no further due to construction.

Alvarez then began backing up, and in doing so made contact with his passenger-side rear bumper into the battery cage of the dump truck, causing minor damage.

Reserve Commander Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.
