Hendricks County pursuit ends with ‘serious crash’ in Putnam County

MOUNT MERIDIAN — What started as a pursuit out of Hendricks County ended in a crash in eastern Putnam County.

Westbound U.S. 40 is closed for an undetermined amount of time in the Mount Meridian area following what law enforcement agencies are currently calling a “serious crash” at County Road 510 East.

In a Facebook post shortly after 2 p.m., the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported, “Westbound U.S. 40 is currently closed at County Road 510 East due to a serious crash. Seek an alternative route as the road will be closed for an extended period while an investigation is completed.”

Scanner traffic had earlier indicated that the crash originated from a pursuit that started in Hendricks.

Putnam County 911 Dispatch similarly reported that teh road would be closed for an undetermined amount of time, while also encouraging motorists to seek an alternate route.

According to PCSO Public Information Office Cpl. Scott Ducker, a vehicle fire resulting from the crash had been extinguished shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Ducker further reported that an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist had been called to the scene and that ISP was likely to handle the investigation overall.
